Why Skincare Matters for Black Women with Oily Skin

Our gorgeous melanin-rich skin is unique, but it’s also prone to challenges like hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and excessive oil production. Consistency is key—but who has time for that, right? That’s where this routine comes in. It’s fast, effective, and designed for us busy black mums who want to look and feel our best.

Morning Routine: Wake Up and Glow

  1. Cleanse
    The foundation of any skincare routine is a good cleanser. I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, a lifesaver for oily, acne-prone skin. It has salicylic acid to clear pores and prevent breakouts while being gentle on melanin-rich skin. 

  2. Tone
    A toner is your secret weapon for controlling shine and refining texture. I use the Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera. It’s alcohol-free, which means it won’t dry out your skin, and the witch hazel is fantastic for reducing oiliness. The added aloe vera is soothing and hydrating, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and balanced. It’s perfect for prepping your skin for the rest of your routine.

  3. Serum The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is a great serum to control oil production and improve texture. Another great serum that works well for me is Paula's Choice BOOST 10% Niacinamide Booster. They both help to reduce oil production, minimize pores, and even skin tone. 


  4. Moisturize (Don’t Skip This!)
